<title>Helping Students in Emotional Distress - Thu, Mar 18 12:00 pm</title>
<description>University faculty and staff members are often the first to recognize that a student may be struggling emotionally. Students may turn to you because they know and respect you. Join the staff of the Personal Growth &amp; Counseling Center for an informal discussion on providing help for students in emotional distress.
Bring your lunch!
Dessert and drinks will be provided!
This event is sponsored by the Personal Growth &amp; Counseling Center, under the direction of Health &amp; Wellness Services and in observance of Suicide Prevention &amp; Awareness Week and National Social Work Month 2010.

<title>Social Justice Colloquium - Wed, Apr 14 06:00 pm</title>
<description>The most pressing issue in the United States today is Health Care and Health Care reform. As Congress and the President hash out the details of what Health Care system should be in the United States, the current broken system has had its severe effects on all groups in the United States. In an interdependent world, the lack of access to affordable healthcare in the U.S. has negatively affected the well-being of U.S. workers in general which in turn affects U.S. role in world exchange.

Native Americans experience similar issues. The Indian Health Services is the major source of Health Care for Native Americans but is funded through government bureaucracy; this is a treaty obligation that most Native American Nations have with the federal government. This event will explore Indian Health issues and services in California and how they are situated within the national healthcare debate. Reflection on the strategies Native Communities use will contribute to the broader discussion of Health Care locally, nationally and globally.</description>

<title>Film Screening and Discussion - Wed, Apr 14 07:00 pm</title>
<description>Film Screening of &quot; On These Shoulders We Stand&quot; and Q&amp;A with Director Glenne McElhinney

Wednesday, April 14. 7:00 to 9:00
Tanumira &amp; Antle Library, Room 1188

Not everything began with Stonewall. On These Shoulders We Stand chronicles the lives of eleven elders, from their early years to their coming out, to their groundbreaking activism for the rights of all LGBT people. Contrary to popular belief that the struggle for gay rights was confined to New York City and San Francisco, the film profiles several Los Angeles activists who helped change the course of both California and LGBT history. Viewers will learn how Los Angeles' gay community has had a national impact on issues as diverse as the first amendment, the entertainment industry and the civil rights movement. On These Shoulders We Stand brings the marginalized and under reported history of Los Angeles' LGBT community to a new generation of American audiences.
